Isaac's paper in Bioinspiration & Biomimetics
Congratulations to Isaac Yeaton, whose new paper on gliding (pdf) was published today in the journal Bioinspiration and Biomimetics. This paper is a theoretical analysis that uses lift and drag coefficients to understand the dynamics of gliding. In particular, it treats these coefficients as angle of attack-dependent and examines how such dependence affects non-equilibrium gliding. It also introduces a new universal glide scaling parameter, which we hope will be useful for characterizing animal gliders in future studies.
In addition to being a nice study, the paper was chosen for highlight in the Featured article section of the journal.
